Part-Time Montessori Assistant/Apprentice Guide (Primary, Ages 2.5-6)

Acton Academy of Washington, DC is seeking a part-time Montessori (ages 2.5-6) assistant/apprentice guide to work in the afternoons (2-6pm).

About Acton Academy

Acton Academy of Washington, DC is a Montessori preschool and innovative elementary school that guides each child on a journey to discover a calling and change the world.

Acton Academy is a new school that opened this September in Foggy Bottom with Acton Montessori (ages 2.5-6) and Acton Elementary (grades 1-6), so this is an opportunity to be an integral part of the building of an innovative, game-changing school.

Acton Montessori is an all-day program (8am-6pm) with an optional five-week summer session.

Position Description

The Montessori assistant/apprentice guide will join a new, all-day primary classroom in a lovely historic row house. She/he will help guide 12-18 children, delivering an exceptional program that supports the individual needs of the children in accordance with Maria Montessori's philosophy and vision. Consistent with that vision, the Montessori assistant/apprentice guide will observe, track, and evaluate individual children's progress. Additionally, she/he will work with the Acton elementary guide to help provide a smooth transition for children into the older Acton classroom. The position offers opportunities for growth into a full-time position, professional development, and advancement.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a deep curiosity about life, a lifelong love of learning, and an entrepreneurial spirit (must thrive in a startup environment). She/he will be responsible for facilitating a nurturing and joyful studio culture. We seek someone who has:

  • Montessori training (ideal but not required).

  • Experience working with children ages 2.5-6.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset and desire to experiment, evaluate, and improve on everything she/he does.

  • A willingness to be coached and mentored.

  • A passion for the Montessori philosophy and the discipline to embody Montessori values at all times.

  • A deep respect for all children and empathy for the challenges children face in their lives.

  • A commitment to practicing gentle, compassionate limit setting.

  • A strong teamwork ethic, a genuine desire to collaborate with colleagues, and a steadfast sense of professionalism.

Substitute Montessori Guides (Primary, Ages 2.5-6)

Acton Academy of Washington, DC is seeking substitute guides for a Montessori primary program (ages 2.5-6). We seek substitutes for full-day work (8am to 4pm) and/or part-time work in the afternoons (2pm to 6pm), Monday through Friday. We are looking for substitutes who can be available on an on-call basis and also for work scheduled in advance.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children ages 2.5-6.

  • Comfortable acting as the lead guide.

  • A deep respect for all children and empathy for the challenges children face in their lives.

  • A commitment to practicing gentle, compassionate limit setting.

  • Dynamic and creative.

  • Willing to learn and support Montessori principles (Montessori training is ideal but not required).

  • Willing to be coached.
